I’ve performed with them once earlier this year in India, so it’ll be great to have a run in Dublin. There’s quite a bit of music I’ve written specially for this play, which Clodagh and I sing. The glorious poetry of three of our Nobel Laureates is brought to life in a
unique theatrical experience by actors Cathal Quinn and Clodagh Smith and
evocatively enhanced by musician and singer Enda Reilly and contemporary
dancer Megan Kennedy.
We are brought on a journey from cradle to grave beginning with the magic
of childhood, moving on to courtship and love, and into the realm of old
age, reflection, and the mystery of life itself; the poetry of W.B. Yeats,
Samuel Beckett, and Seamus Heaney guiding us and charting our journey.
Aphorisms from another Nobel Laureate G.B. Shaw add colour and humour,
and, with Irish-language translations of some of the poetry by world-
renowned poet and translator Gabriel Rosenstock, we are treated to another
interpretation of these four masters, resonating beautifully in the older tongue.
Everlasting Voices/ Guthanna Síoraí sold out the National Concert Hall in July
2013, and was performed at the Hyderabad Literary Festival in India earlier this
year. Audiences in Dublin will have an opportunity to enjoy the performance
from August 12 – 16th
The aforementioned poets are known throughout the world. But at the heart
of the poems selected here are basic human emotions with which we can all
identify. And with contemporary music and dance the drama within the works
is brought vividly to life, giving us fresh interpretations of lines that may be
familiar to some and new to others.

The poems selected chart our journey from cradle to grave, touching upon
the human condition in all its vulnerable glory. And the human condition is
something that never changes. The literary giants who penned these poems
– W.B. Yeats, Samuel Beckett, and Seamus Heaney – are celebrated in all
corners of the globe. Their voices transcend all that supposedly separates us.
Their voices are truly everlasting.

Artistic Director and actor Cathal Quinn adds:
‘The poems come off the page and into people’s hearts, where they belong.
We received permission from Seamus Heaney to mount this production only
months before he died, it was very poignant performing it in India after his
death, he is as just loved and revered abroad as he is here, and just as much
as Yeats, Beckett and Shaw.’
It is suitable for all lovers of poetry aged 9-99.

Guthanna Binne Síoraí was formed in 2012 by poet and translator Gabriel
Rosenstock and director, actor and Voice coach Cathal Quinn. They decided
that they wanted to stage the works of great Irish poets, and to do it in English
and in Irish, utilising to the full the talents of the two founders in creating
projects, then to employ highly skilled musicians, actors, singers and dancers to
bring these projects fully to life.
