Strangers On A Train – Song Of The Day 7

Posted on 31 Aug 2017

Inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same name, this is kinda like a trailer for the film. A fun little project I set myself to encapsulate the essence of the film into a song in a fun way. There’s a little bit of Johnny cash creeping into this one too. This was on my first album, Oxygen 21 and also on a compilation Cd with other train songs.

And if you like it have a listen to the original Oxygen 21 album version below.

We All Own The Sky

Posted on 7 Jul 2014

Here’s two different mixes of a new song of mine. The idea for this song came as I was going to India earlier in 2014, considering what we have in common. I think it also goes back to a chapter of a Feasta book regarding the commons; That there are certain things we hold in common and that we should all take care of them together. And then question of have we left it too late to be able to save the earth? (Whatever that means to you?)

The first is the shorter version with just my voice and guitar which you can find here or

The second mix is a bit more experimental and has a bit of a jam at the end of the song.

And Here are the lyrics.

We all own the Sky
Blue in the day and Black in the Night

We all own the Wind
That blows around the World again

What Have we done to her?
Changing her behaviour.

What can we do for her?
Can we even save her?

We all own the Seas
Americans and Cantonese
We all own the Seas
Indians and japanese

We all own the Wind
That blows around the World again
We all own the Wind
European African

Forgive Me Mother Earth

What Have we done to her?
Changing her behaviour.
What can we do for her?
Can we even save her?

Forgive Me Mother Earth

I’ll definitely be getting some more videos for the new album to tie along with it and I’m chatting with a director about a video for Cur an Long Seol at the moment. So subscribe to the Youtube page or the blog here via RSS or join the aul mailing list to stay in the know.

I’m Doin’ Fine

Posted on 9 Jul 2013

Twas lovely to revisit this song with an acoustic version. I’ve had a lot of people say they like this track and I’m glad that it has entertained and helped. If you are in Ireland this week I hope you’re enjoying the lovely weather and you’re doin fine.

A Wounded Bird

Posted on 24 Jun 2013

Welcome to Original Song Monday! So I began writing the melody for A Wounded Bird fingerpicking on the guitar and developed it on the fiddle and had a nice instrumental version of it. Then my beautiful fianceé Anne Marie Lents wrote a poem to it, which i tweaked and since then I’ve been working on the arrangement leading to this version. I haven’t been fully happy with my live version so I hope this is almost there now.

You are a Wounded Bird
On a road with passers by
You are a Wounded Bird
But they would let you die
Before they broke your wing
They stole your will to fly
Remember your sweet song
Now I only hear your cry
You are a Wounded Bird
Still waiting just to die
I will mend your wing
If you’ll relearn to fly

All the people pray
The foolish and the wisest
All the people say
It’s you who flew the highest
Remember all those days
You can have them back again

You’re not a Wounded Bird
You can dry your eye
You’re not a Wounded Bird
Here’s the reason why
I only fixed your wing
It was you who chose to fly
You’re not a wounded bird
You can dry your eye
You’re not a Wounded Bird
Here’s the reason why
I can hear you sing
As you embrace the sky
