This is one of my most popular cover songs on youtube and one of my favourites too. REM’s Nightswimming. It took a while to get an arrangement that worked on guitar but I’m pleased with the outcome. Enjoy!
So here’s a song I’ve been singing with Everlasting Voices from an album released earlier this year called Blood On The Rose. It’s called The Watchword of Labour and was written by James Connolly one of the signatories of The Irish Proclamation of 1916, which we are commemorating this year.
I was involved with two tracks on the album. The other contribution I made was some guitar effects behind Cathal Quinn’s reading of Easter 1916 by W.B. Yeats. The whole experience has been very educational for me as I’m learning about the complexities of the revolution as I go. We’ve been to Sean McDermot’s hometown of Kiltyclogher, to Dungannon where Tom Clarke grew up, to Belfast, to the Pearse Museum in Rathfarnham, amongst others and we’ve met great people and found some more poems and insights as we’ve gone along.
