Light From The Darkness – Song Of The Day 2

This song happened and I’ve been trying to figure out what it means other than me enjoying singing it. So here’s some thoughts. Thanks again to Josh Johnston for the string arrangement and the Quartet who did a great job.

In this song I’m exploring the idea of eternity and leaning towards the light. Eternity is an interesting concept in that, it’s without time. It doesn’t mean everlasting, it’s now and all the time that’s ever been and all the time that will be, all altogether instantaneously. I guess we perceive time usually in a linear fashion, but we get glimpses of this eternity, sometimes in songs or meditation or prayer and other altered states.

I guess I’m also pondering space and how, we are this island of life on Earth, in the middle of it all. Thinking of our smallness in the universe can make us feel lonely, but I guess this puts into focus what’s important about being alive: interactions with friends and loved ones and for me artistic creation.

Entropy was a concept I came across in chemistry in college and is the idea that everything in the Universe is tending toward chaos. (Your bedroom/house is always going to get messy unless you do the chores and clean up)

Our creativity in all its guises and life in general bucks the trend and goes against entropy. So life is the light and entropy is the darkness. We get to light up the darkness while we are here by interacting and enjoying life and creating. So perhaps this song is a call to express ourselves through whatever calls to us creatively. thanks for listening and reading.
