Light From The Darkness – Song Of The Day 2

Posted on 26 Aug 2017

This song happened and I’ve been trying to figure out what it means other than me enjoying singing it. So here’s some thoughts. Thanks again to Josh Johnston for the string arrangement and the Quartet who did a great job.

In this song I’m exploring the idea of eternity and leaning towards the light. Eternity is an interesting concept in that, it’s without time. It doesn’t mean everlasting, it’s now and all the time that’s ever been and all the time that will be, all altogether instantaneously. I guess we perceive time usually in a linear fashion, but we get glimpses of this eternity, sometimes in songs or meditation or prayer and other altered states.

I guess I’m also pondering space and how, we are this island of life on Earth, in the middle of it all. Thinking of our smallness in the universe can make us feel lonely, but I guess this puts into focus what’s important about being alive: interactions with friends and loved ones and for me artistic creation.

Entropy was a concept I came across in chemistry in college and is the idea that everything in the Universe is tending toward chaos. (Your bedroom/house is always going to get messy unless you do the chores and clean up)

Our creativity in all its guises and life in general bucks the trend and goes against entropy. So life is the light and entropy is the darkness. We get to light up the darkness while we are here by interacting and enjoying life and creating. So perhaps this song is a call to express ourselves through whatever calls to us creatively. thanks for listening and reading.

Light From The Darkness

In the depth of silence sits eternity
Waiting for a wondrous stirring melody
Like a seed that needs no time to grow up to the stars

Shining in the darkness is each living being
Reflecting to the universe their amazing dreams
The cry of gulls the howl of wolves in the night

Tell me you see me and sing me a song the way
Only you can sing
Bring forth the light in the darkest of night the way
Only you can bring

Even though the darkness waits for everyone
And even though we struggle on without a plan
We’ll light up that dark abyss
Fill it up with just one kiss

Tell me you see me and sing me a song the way
Only you can sing
Bring forth the light in the darkest of night the way
Only you can bring

In My Element – Song Of the Day 1

Posted on 25 Aug 2017

In My Element is a song I wrote about being in the zone where you are performing at an optimal level, where time flies by and you were following your bliss and you didn’t notice it fly by. This is the state we should be trying to be in as often as we can. Inspired by the TED talk by Sir Ken Robinson and his book.   Here’s a solo live performance from Bewley’s Cafe Theatre a few years ago. And you can also hear it with The Lazy Band on the album available over here

I hope you spend some time in your element today or over the weekend! The lyrics are below.

In My Element Lyrics

You know that there’s this silver cloud

Flying on high

Taking it’s time for you

You know that there’s this place you can go

Waiting for you

Waiting for you to come along

So take the time to look all around you

got to do what you think you should do

i will be waiting for you

In that place where time moves so quickly

That’s where you’ll find me

That’s where you’ll find me

In my Element

So take the time to find your muse

You know you can’t lose

I know you won’t lose

You’ll only win the time

To look all around you

Got to do what you think you should do

I will be waiting for you

In that place where time moves so quickly

that’s where you’ll find me

that’s where you’ll find me

In My Element

You know that there’s this silver cloud

Flying on high

Taking it’s time for you

You know that there’s this place you can grow

Waiting for you

Waiting for you to come along

Live Stream Concert

Posted on 2 Aug 2017

Howdy,

I hope all’s well with yis!

In 2010 I used to do an online concert via Ustream, “At the Hut”. And it was fun but I ultimately let it go by the wayside. The visual quality wasn’t great but we had the craic with it. In fact one of them is still there, a concert I did with Mossy Nolan.

Now that Youtube facebook and their grannies are all going live, I’ve decided to give it another shot. I did a test gig as it were, last weekend and after an initial bit of headscratching I’m fairly pleased with the result.

So for the foreseeable future I’ll be doing a Live Stream Concert on the last Saturday of the month once a month at 7pm IST (Irish Standard Time) from www.endareilly.com/live. The next one is on Saturday the 26th. I’m currently making use of Youtube for this so you can also watch on my youtube page

Here’s an edited version of the last Live Streaming Concert i did. If you have any requests (original or traditional only cause of copyright issues) then let me know and I’ll see what i can do. I’m open to feedback on this whole process as I’d like to make it as simple as possible for you all, and to keep the quality up to scratch.

Bye for now and check out the 50 min gig below when you’ve time.
